If you find you are drawn to the dark side of life in other words have a keen interest in unsolved murder cases, psychopaths, sociopaths, serial killers, stalkers, crime scene analysis then this course is for you. We will travel together the fascinating journey of why people commit crimes matching theories to crimes as we go…
We will look at the history of crime and criminology, briefly look at the theories and concepts of criminology, we will look in more depth to the sociological and biological theories of crime and consider whether how we are socialised may play a part, if any, in determining whether someone is more likely to engage in criminal behaviour or not. High profile murderers will be examined in terms of their socialisation from child to adult to determine if any event or series of events may have contributed to their criminal mind. We will also delve into the fascinating world of Psychopaths and Sociopaths and will try to determine what theory of crime can be attributed to their behaviours. We will also discuss crime scenes in terms of collecting evidence but also figuring out if the crime scene was staged. Students will study the different types of killers and have the opportunity to participate in profiling the likely killer based on a true- life crime scene.
